Rate Limit Calculator

Estimate steady request throughput and time under a rate limit.

Calculations run in your browser. The tool does not send your inputs to a server.

01Your inputs

Start with the sample below, or enter your own values.

Enter a whole-number count. Check the unit in the label.
Enter a numeric value using the unit shown in the label.

A quick guide

How to use this tool

  1. Check the example and the unit beside each input.
  2. Enter your values and choose Calculate.
  3. Review the result and assumptions, then copy what you need.

Reset example restores the starting values. Clear removes text and number inputs, returns choices to their first valid option, and removes the result.

Explanation and worked examples

100 requests per 60 seconds averages about 1.67 requests/s. Real APIs may use burst, rolling-window or concurrency limits too.

Use in day-to-day IT work

Estimate sustained request time when sizing a polling or batch integration.

Checks before applying the result

  • The estimate assumes steady pacing at limit divided by window; it does not model an initial burst or a provider fixed-window reset.
  • Account for request latency, concurrency, retries, pagination and the service Retry-After instructions.
New to the terminology?
Backoff
Waiting progressively longer between retry attempts.
Jitter
Varying delays to avoid many clients retrying together.
Cron
A field-based expression selecting scheduled times.
